We Love That! With Kay – Different & Fun Eats in Vancouver

Vancouver is the birthplace of many, many foodie gems. Close your eyes for a little longer than a few seconds and bloop….there’s a new restaurant on the corner of a newly gentrified neighbourhood with a lineup out the door.

Let us guess – they don’t take reservations, they’re closed in the middle of the day, and the fare is fresh and locally grown. Correct? That’s the beauty of the Vancouver food scene – it’s continuously blossoming and providing us with a new dining experience on a daily basis.

Luckily for us locals, many of these dining experiences are fairly unique. Although each restaurant is arguably a unique experience on its own, some of Vancouver’s finest food establishments stand out from the rest. Daily Team has assembled a list of places offering something a little different!

If you’re looking to eat in the dark, find an entirely vegan meal, or be waited on by purposely dry-humoured staff…here goes our list in no particular order!

Dark Table
Where: 2611 W 4th Ave, Vancouver, BC
Dull one of your senses and intensify the others. Dark Table is all about taking away your ability to see and allowing your sense of taste to strengthen as you enjoy your meal. After choosing a set meal at the front door, you are subjected to complete and utter darkness for the rest of the night. The dining room is truly pitch black—there are curtains covering most doorways to ensure that no light gets in.
Most of the staff is either blind or visually impaired, and having them serve you and guide you through the restaurant is truly an experience in itself. Not only is the service great and the experience memorable, but the food is good too!

Mosquito
Where: 32 Water St, Vancouver, BC
Ah, two of our favourite food groups: wine and desserts. Mosquito is a dessert, wine, and champagne lounge located in the heart of Gastown, where you can sit back and enjoy its quietly sexy atmosphere. The desserts are deliciously elaborate. Does the sound of an olive oil bavarois with madeleine sponge stimulate your salivary glands like it does ours? Mosquito also offers a few snacks, like Parmesan popcorn and a charcuterie plate if you’re looking to munch alongside a cocktail.
Mmmm. Wine for dinner always sounds good. Oh, getting your date here is a good idea, too!

ZEND Conscious Lounge
Where: 1130 Mainland St, Vancouver, BC
ZEND Conscious Lounge is one of the first full-fledged vegan restaurants to open in Vancouver. In addition to being 100% vegan, the restaurant doesn’t serve liquor. Howvever, they offer juices with ingredients that are supposed to help soothe you naturally. The dishes are colourful and made for sharing. Although they are on the pricier side, think of the fancy neighbourhood (hello, Town of Yale – we see you!) and the awesome, awesome fact that all proceeds go to charity.
Mmmm. Healthy food and philanthropy.

The Elbow Room
Where: 560 Davie St, Vancouver, BC
A few Internet people have donned this restaurant as the Rude Restaurant in Vancouver. That’s because the staff at The Elbow Room are purposely dry-humoured and sarcastic once you walk through the door. It’s fine – we mean, eating a forkful of brunch passively is completely normal, right?
If you can handle the occasional quips and the blatant disregard for your feelings, then come hither. The Elbow Room might just tickle your fancy and give you a good laugh, but more than that, your unfinished food goes towards charity. Not the actual food, of course. But a donation will be taken and given towards A Loving Spoonful.
P.S. Read the rules once you get in. It helps with the coping.

Afghan Horsemen
Where: 1833 Anderson St, Vancouver, BC
If you thought belly dancers were reserved for sheikhs and 90’s rap songs then you are very, very wrong, my friend.
Afghan Horsemen serves up – you’ve guessed it – Afghani cuisine. The atmosphere is lively and the décor is impeccable, especially if you’re seated in the pillow room where you can rest your laurel on a cushion and fawn over the delicate drapery. The food itself has been voted top Middle Eastern food in Vancouver a handful of times, so this place is the real deal.
FYI, belly dancers are in on Friday nights. Do not miss them.

Feeling Peckish? Gotta have Peqish!

With the second week of Jan already in, deadlines are looming in again, so are the meetings and schedules. Keeping up with the resolutions is already looking like a task for some.

In the midst of all these, are you finding time for yourself? Trying to, you would say.

Finding a little me-time starts with enjoying a healthy meal for breakfast. Then, away from all the office craziness, a delicious yet healthy meal can help fuel you for the rest of the day. Happy and energetic you will be different from the hangry and grumpy you!

Now, you would say that healthy, delicious and affordable options are far and few in the city. And these options for breakfast and lunch hardly exist. That’s exactly what Team Daily thought until we came across Peqish.

The Peqish Food Co. was established on the principle that healthy, delicious, freshly-made quality food should be affordable, convenient and accessible in a grab-and-go format for those on the run.

The name itself is a play on the work “peckish,” a common British term for feeling hungry. Peqish’s perspective on food, particularly the obsession with “eating right,” is likely borne out of the scientific backgrounds of the founders. Based on their experiences in the life sciences industry, they saw first-hand the deleterious effects of a poor diet on one’s health. Despite the overwhelming amount of literature, the incidence of diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and autoimmunity continues to rise. As such, they were compelled not only to increase the community’s awareness of how we nourish ourselves but also to make nutritious and delicious food accessible and affordable.

Their tagline, “Eat.Right.Now” correctly sums up the essence of Peqish.

Before you begin to wonder what should you try out first from their menu, we have an answer for you. Their best-selling Festive Chicken Crancherry Lunchbox Classiq sandwich is to die for. Proceed with caution as this sandwich is addictive!

This super delicious sandwich is made up of housemade roasted chicken, greens, and the secret aioli recipe. Wait, there’s more to the best seller. The taste is then perfectly balanced with a touch of sweetness from their made-from-scratch crancherry compote. A bite into this heaven of a sandwich and you will know why it is a favorite.

Chicken Crancherry is a crowd pleaser but we wanted to know what do the minds (or more like the hands) behind Peqish like to munch on. So, we got in touch with Kenneth who is one of the founders at Peqish.
Kenneth says, “My personal favorite is our PQ Cobb Salad Box.”
On asking what makes this Cobb salad unique, he said, “it’s your classic Cobb salad using fresh, high-quality ingredients, but with a twist in the dressing we use: our housemade chipotle ranch dressing. It’s the perfect amount at lunch, but leaves just enough room for an afternoon treat.” He further added, “speaking of an afternoon treat, my other favorite at the moment is our Blueberry Cheesecake Loaf!”

Did you hear cheesecake? Yes! Cheesecake loaf!

Alright, looks like now you know what to have for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack tomorrow.

While discussing food, we went on to talk about how Peqish has shaped up as a healthy favorite for everyone in no time. Like a proud parent, Kenneth said that starting the business itself was a big milestone for him. He said, “It was a sprint from reviewing interior design drawings through to construction and of course our opening last year. It’s been an exciting year, but we have even bigger plans for 2016.”

2016 surely looks like a great year for Peqish. They just launched a series of new products, including a kale caesar salad line, a hot chili line and a number of tasty loaves. On the expansion front, they have a number of new partnerships in the works, so expect to find Peqish products in even more locations.

Softly Sweet – Soft Peaks Ice Cream

Blame it on the Festive Season or on our love for everything sweet, we have been constantly munching on a lot of sweet somethings of late. Where munching is concerned, as always, Team Daily’s tastes are divided. While half of us prefer something soft to indulge, the other half prefers anything! Our adventure to calm our sweet tooth one day took us to Soft Peaks Ice Cream. Yes, we eat ice creams throughout the year! While enjoying a chilled cup of Soft Peaks, we realized, “We have not discussed this treasure on our blog!

So, we got in touch with Soft Peaks to bring you some delicious details about the healthy ice creams that are making everyone go gaga.

Founded by food lovers and brothers Dan and Ken Kim, the inspiration for Soft Peaks comes from their love of deserts.
Being true foodies, they can literally spend all day searching for new restaurants and in their words, “can eat all day”. After many years of refining, testing, and hunting for the perfect combination of ingredients, their original, homemade recipe for soft serve was created. And, we are thankful to them for it!
Compared to Dan & Ken, Team Daily is an amateur foodie. Yeah, we like to just eat!

If the word ‘foodie’ paints a picture of junk food loving people in your mind, you are a little wrong here.

Dan & Ken’s focus has always been to make healthy food that their customers can trust while fulfilling their nutritional requirements and pleasing their sweet tooth too.

But why ice cream? In the words of the Kim brothers, “we both love milk and it was natural to select milk as our primary ingredient for our soft serve”. Milk. Yes, milk. Didn’t we all love milk as kids? Oh, don’t lie now!

As milk is the main ingredient of the soft serve,they have carefully selected the premium quality of local Avalon organic milk along with other organic premium ingredients such as organic cream and organic milk powder. Their soft serves are fresh since they are made every day, from scratch, in the store. They start their mornings by preparing fresh batches of soft serves and the result is refreshing, milky dessert that is all-natural, high in calcium, and lower in calories and fat than other ice cream. Woah! Now you know why we are in love with Soft Peaks? It’s ice cream but just better and healthier.

Their soft serves are also less sweeter than most ice creams. They have done this on purpose so that the customers can enjoy customizing their own soft serves with other various tasteful toppings based on their personal styles and preferences.

Even though it takes longer to hunt for great quality ingredients and takes more time to prepare soft serves, Dan and Ken say that they feel happy when they hear their customers praise their products. It is the taste of the soft serves and the friendly nature of the team at Soft Peaks that customers who visit them once become brand loyal and keep coming back.

You have not been there? What? You have to head there soon and taste their Honeycomb Peak. Imagine a fresh piece of Okanagan and Fraser Valley honeycomb on top of the thick milky soft serve. Yumm! *lost in soft serve land*

If you have already tasted their Honeycomb Peak, we recommend Mudslide. Crunchy Tim Tam flakes with flowing chocolate syrup on the signature twist. Super delicious! It is the chocolaty treat that no chocolate lover can afford to miss.

If you feel like trying something different, Green Forest is their best bet.  Made with organic premium matcha powder and sweet red beans, the soft serve comes with condensed milk on top. Perfect, we say! Ken brothers know their flavors and they really know them really well.

When quizzed about their personal favorite, they were quick to say, “Blue Mountain!”. Blue Mountain has homemade blueberry puree on top which is made from local organic blueberries. “We love how juicy and fresh they taste”, says Ken.

The Kim brothers love each and every day at their store but cannot forget the first day of opening. “We can’t remember how nervous yet exciting we were to open our door for the very first time!”, says Dan.

Constantly working to create new flavours, Soft Peaks have lots of interesting things in store.  Talking about store, they have just got a new soft serve machine and now you can have Twisted Original and Chocolate soft serve at their store, too.

Dunn’s Famous in Deli Style

Yes, it is the festive season. Yes, we are busy dreaming about food. Yes, we Love Meat! You didn’t see that coming. Did you?

It is no surprise that Team Daily is  food-centric and food-obsessed. With it being the season to eat, we have all the more reasons to talk about food. If you are a foodie like us then you would know about the re-launch of Dunn’s Famous. Yes, Dunn’s Famous, the Meat Heaven. The place to calm all your meat cravings.

They are known for their Authentic Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches and are the only restaurant in Vancouver where Smoked Meat is hand sliced to make the iconic Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich the right way.

We recently caught up with Yonathan, General Manager of Dunn’s Famous BC, to learn about the revamped version of their restaurant.

To give you a quick overview, Dunn’s Famous is now Deli Style. With the deli-like setting, you can now see the Authentic Montreal Smoked Meat being hand carved in front of your eyes. Trust us, this actually makes you more hungry and makes you appreciate your meal more. With the new design, Yonathan says that they are looking to go back to the roots of Dunn’s Famous in Montreal and creating a culture of Smoked Meat here in BC.

Dunn’s re-launch is not only about looks. You can now expect quicker service, freshest products, updated menu and more retail items to take home.

Their menu now includes Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwiches, numerous Poutines, Coffee Brined Roasted Beef Sandwich (Yeah, Coffee Infused Roast Beef. This is something you cannot miss!), a Seasonal Vegetarian Sandwich (that one vegetarian friend in the group will now be happy, too),  and The Platters. Yonathan says, “The platters are a big add-on to our menu”. After all, sharing is caring. And, what better time to introduce the platters than the festive season? We say, this year, while planning your Holiday Dinners, do keep in mind Dunn’s.

Now, you would be thinking of calling them to place your order, or heading there and wondering if all this could be made easier. Answer is, it is made easier. Other than eating in, you can take home a piece of Dunn’s Famous with you, literally. In addition to their Latkes, Matzha balls, Jar of pickles, Saurkraut, Pickled tomatoes, and Cherry peppers, you can purchase cold chunks of smoked meat to steam at home or cold sliced items sold by the weight. Just like Daily Delivery, Dunn’s Famous is all about convenience.

If you are still thinking of Dunn’s Famous as another sandwich store, think again. Yonathan explained to us how they hand slice their meat.  He says, “Hand slicing is an art that takes years to perfect and in many cases, in Montréal, is passed down through generations. Dunn’s is the only hand sliced Montréal Smoked Meat in Vancouver”.

Just like you, we were also wondering how is it different from the other types of sliced meats out there in the market? To this, Yonathan mentioned that machine slicing of meat leads to two unique problems.

  1. When machine sliced, the meat needs to be cooked for a shorter period of time. Otherwise, it does not hold up on the slicer. This reduction in cooking time results a tougher chewy product. (Ah, now we get that elastic-y feeling!)
  2. Machine slicing creates uniform slices that are not always against the grain aging resulting in a tougher sandwich.

Freshness in a Bowl – Fresh Bowl

Transition from Fall to Winter is a rather slippery one. Blame it on the rain! But, think about it, living in Rain-couver, we are used to it. It is this weather that makes us lazy. Well, lazy may not be the right word. What else best describes the feeling of wanting to be inactive and just munching on and on? Hibernation? Oh, well, NO! Let’s forget about the word and focus on the munching part. Mindless munching. We are all guilty of it, especially, around this time of the year.
Now, you would say that keeping healthy in the festive season is almost not possible. It is a constant battle between tasty and healthy. If it is healthy, it isn’t really tasty. And, if it tasty, chances are, it may not be that healthy.

Freshbowl has blended the traditional recipes of South East Asia with healthy and fresh ingredients to meet the demands of today’s modern consumer. Brendan, General Manager of Freshbowl, says, “Inspired by our South East Asian roots, we aim to breathe new life into traditional classics; while maintaining the integrity and spirit that embodies our traditional cuisine”. Coming from a young General Manager, that’s really thoughtful.

Apart from love, there are lots of fresh veggies and healthy condiments in each bowl. From different varieties of rice to noodles and salads, make your pick for the bowl. Select your sauce along with the protein and voila! Your yummy, healthy bowl is ready.

Depending on the season, their top sellers are the Yellow Curry and Pad Thai. Yellow Curry helps to combat the Vancouver winter and Pad Thai is a street-inspired favourite for the summer months.

What about a personal favourite? Brendan loves Laksa. Being his favourite, he has it at least three times a week! Apart from the taste, there is an emotional bond that he shares with this flavour. “The original Laksa recipe came from my late grandma, with her being a big inspiration for our menu; each bite just takes me back to my childhood”, says Brendan.

Talking about their ingredients, they are fresh not only for namesake. In words of Brendan, “Our ingredients are thoughtfully selected, as our focus has always been about providing a high quality meal at an affordable price. It’s so Sweet, It’s Soirette!

When October rings in, you know the festive season has officially begun. Starting from Thanksgiving and until the New Year, Team Daily is in full festive spirit.
Talking about the festive spirit, what screams out celebration louder than sweets? Yes, sweets, treats, desserts!
And what better than macarons to satisfy your sweet-tooth? The mere mention of macarons makes us all go , “yummm”. All the macarons that we munch on are oh-so yum! Why? Because they are from Soirette.

Soirette is a little, colorful, hidden gem in the beautiful Coal Harbour neighbourhood. Interesting name, you would say.  Owner and Pastry Chef, Shobna says, “we wanted a unique name for the unique experience that we had to offer”. Since Soirette is about French goodies, the name is also French which loosely translates to a small party. If you have been to their ‘jewel-box pastry shop’, you would know how aptly it fits in. From their macarons to their cakes, everything tastes sweeter because of the extra serving of love in them. Everyone at Soirette is passionate about what they do and in the words of Shobna, “our hearts belong to baking”.

With so much love and affection being put in, the end product does speak for itself. While all the flavors of macarons at Soirette are remarkable, one stands out. The Vancouver Fog. The Vancouver Fog is a Soirette original. It originated from their best-selling organic Lavender Earl Grey tea. From tea, it evolved to latte and now to their best selling macaron and cake, too. So, next time at Soirette, don’t forget to get this uber flavorful option packed. Other than this, their range of macarons is vast. From top-sellers to all-time-favorites to seasonal ones, you will never be disappointed. Same goes for their cakes. This place is truly a sweet heaven.

Now, for all those who think, “how often can one eat macarons?” Don’t worry! Apart from their macarons, Soirette is known for their hi-tea. It is during the hi-tea hours that you can enjoy the numerous delicacies, both sweet and savory, from the amazing folks at Soirette. But remember, hi-tea at Soirette is by reservation only. Reserve your spot for the weekend now to avoid any disappointment.

Other than sugar, Soirette does pack some spice, too. They have weekday lunch options of scrumptious sandwiches for which the breads are baked freshly in-store.

Fresh ingredients, baked with love, friendly team and a warm atmosphere. Don’t you already want to be there? While there, make sure to say Hi to Shobna. Her cheerful nature adds life to Soirette.
It is their team effort that has helped them build a loyal customer base. More than shopping and snacking, it is about relationships and experience at Soirette. It is the appreciation from their customers that Soirette is now planning on their second location. Details? Soon!

Junior in Name, Superior in Taste

As the mercury drops, the sun hides and the leaves fall, all we feel like doing is snugging ourselves in bed. Sadly, we cannot do this all day and every day. Alright, on the weekends, maybe?

What else can we do that would give us the same feeling? Eating? Yess, eating. Eating, if you are like Team Daily. Nothing excites us more than food and you know that.

Just the other day, while pondering about life (yeah, this is what we do in the office in addition to the regular stuff), we were thinking about food items that would give us a cozy feeling. A feeling similar to that of tucking into the comforter on a Winter evening. Talking about this, we could only think of something soft, sweet and very mushy. Just as all teams have their differences, even we do. So, half of us wanted something crisp while the other half was in favor of something soft.
We settled the argument by choosing both (how diplomatic!)
And, what made us settle our argument and experience food heaven were cream-puffs.

Cream puffs, not any of those regular cream puffs but Chewy Junior cream puffs.

With Chewy Junior, you will never know what to begin with. There is vanilla cream and chocolate cream. There are fruits and nuts. There is crunch and mush. From Chocolate Oreo Crunch to Matcha Nippon, they have an interesting variety to choose from.

More variety means more to items to try. But, that does not necessarily mean more calories! Why? Because cream puffs are baked and not deep fried. Now, everything that looks good doesn’t have to be expensive. Priced between $2.75-$3.25 per piece, these cream puffs are light on the wallet just as they are on your waistline.  Considering their size and the taste, you would want to stock up on some. However, that is not an option since they are best enjoyed when fresh.

After reading the title, you must have been thinking, “Been a while since they have written something about food”.

Yes, it has actually been a while because we were busy preparing for Fall and updating you with the amazing progress that your Team Daily has made.

Now that it has already been sometime, why further delay our foodie talks?

Let us just get straight to the point, summer usually means eating healthy, hitting the gym, going camping and relaxing. However, as soon as the leaves change color, the wind gets colder, Fall arrives and our mood changes. How many of you are in the festive spirit already? US!

When talking about festive spirit, how can we not mention cake?

Cake is love. Cake is Life. That is, if you are a foodie like us.

Fall is the season to wrap yourself with warm clothes, drink coffee and now, make sure to eat cake, too. But, when to eat cake? Wait for an occasion? Look out for a celebration? We say, “just eat it!”.

Their Chocolate Trio cake is heaven for chocolate lovers. But if you are looking for pure magic, Chocolate Marquise is the best bet. Also, their Black Forest cake, yumm!
Bottom line – You gotta try all their cakes. (Don’t worry, you have the entire Autumn/ Winter season to do so)

Soirette – Another one of our top favorite! Our sweet discussion will never be complete without mentioning them.
You know that their macarons are divine, don’t you? However, you will only know how awesome Soirette is once you indulge yourself with their delicious cakes. Vancouver Fog is perfection. Although the cake is called Vancouver Fog, it is crystal clear on how delicious this cake is. All the caramel fans, please raise your hands. The Vanilla Caramel is all yours. Relish it, and thank us later.

Small Victory Bakery – Life is all about small pleasures and small victories. When at Small Victory Bakery, it is all about indulging in some small delicacies. Their 6-inch cakes are super cute and tasty. Like we said earlier, no need to wait for any occasion to enjoy some cake. Our favorites have to be Layered Coconut Cake and the Pistachio Cream Cake. We bet, while enjoying your coffee and cake, you will be mesmerized by their simple interiors.

Cadeaux Bakery – Five layer cake slice *lost in cake land*. Not only it sounds tempting, it looks and tastes good, too. Their cheesecakes are also so yum. We can definitely write another post on cheesecakes altogether! Coming back to the slices, Chocolate Praline is completely worth having a couple of cheat days in a week.
Their cakes are made to order so make sure to place your orders well in advance.

Ganache Patisserie – When they are called Ganache Patisserie, expect nothing short of perfection from them. Stepping into Ganache is like stepping into the land of cakes you have always wanted to. It is difficult to choose one so multiple trips are guaranteed. When there, try their chocolate flavors later and focus more on the others like Pamplemousse litchi et rose, Fraises et rhubarbe and Tarte aux citrons meringue to name a few.

We Love That! with Kay – Best Pizza in Vancouver

Team Daily loves food, events, people, shopping, this thing, that thing and just every other thing about Vancouver! Just as much as we love the City, we love talking about it. Now, we have someone else, too, to talk about our City.

Without talking too much, let’s get straight to the  point. We have already spoken about the Best-in-City Burgers, Macarons, Milkshakes, Cookies and Juices but how did we forget pizza? Pizza! Pizzaaaaa! The life saver. Our first love. Our comfort food. But as they say, “better late than never”.

Here is Kay’s amazing experiences while hunting for the Best Pizzas in Vancouver.

We were in Italy for close to three weeks in between backpacking and studying abroad last year. Roma, Firenze, Venezia, and Cinque Terre – we are obsessed with Italian food.
We like to tell people we majored in Pizza, with a minor in Gelato.

While not in Italy anymore, the pizza from the following places takes us straight to the Italian Pizza Heaven!

Rebellious Tomato – Healthy pizza isn’t an oxymoron here. Rebellious Tomato is perfect for people with food restrictions who still want to indulge in the glory that is pizza. They offer organic ingredients, gluten free and whole wheat crust options, and plenty of vegetarian options.
But healthy doesn’t mean plain and boring. Their Tear Jerker and Thai Curry pizzas are just yumm!

NOVO Pizzeria & Wine Bar Pizza and Vino is one of the best combinations in the world! White pizzas here are super noms and I would recommend their Potato Pizza. It’s carbs on carbs but whatever – you need to soak up all that wine somehow. That’s basically advice for your well-being.
Tips? Have a dinner and a movie date – the Fifth Avenue Cinema is next door! (Then you can sober up during the movie.Duh.)

Bufala  We dig this place because of their innovative spin on salads (Can you say arugula and grapefruit? Kale Caesar? Soo nums) and because the location is pretty prime.
Their pizzas are also good – a little bit on the thicker and smaller side of wood fire pizzas. We generally like our wood fire pizzas paper thin and somewhat on the wet side.
Bufala is quite new and you can tell by its use of hipster fonts and the pristinely clean décor. We dig it.

Via Tevere Pizzeria Napoletana – Extra points for cuteness. Located at the corner of a residential block, Via Tevere shies away from commercial storefronts. It is cute as hell. There’s usually a line up around front, so you’ve been warned. Tasty pizzas. Good caprese salad. Excellent Nutella fritters. Just Do It, we say!

Unforgettable Pizza – My favourite thing about Unforgettable Pizza is the cheese. It’s so freaking good. They claim to have the best mozzarella and we believe it. We’ve never been to NYC ourselves, so unfortunately we can’t contend how accurate its advertising of ‘New York Style Pizza’ it is – but Unforgettable’s pizza runs on the thin and fold able side à la NYC. Also, the names of their pizzas are très catchy.

CottoEnoteca Pizzeria – Technically not in Vancouver, but we have to include this on the list because they have burrata cheese on the menu all the time. It is to die for. As slightly indicated the name, burrata is like a buttery, milky, more rich version of fresh mozzarella.It’s a stringy wet mess that you glop onto a piece of Cotto’s fresh rosemary brick oven bread (forno bread). Cotto’s burrata appy comes with their roasted pepper caponata that they make in-house. The peppers melt in your mouth and have a slight vinegar taste to them. Trust us when we say it is pretty much the bomb dot com. We would also recommend their piatto di antipasti which comes with their caponata and a bunch of other very marvelous items.

Nicli Antica Pizzeria – Literally my fav! If we want really good pizza, we go to Nicli’s. It tastes exactly like the good pizza in Italy – uncut, thin as ever, and the tomato sauce has a creamy rich essence to it. It is awesome pizza.They grow fresh basil and other herbs right in the dining room – you can watch the staff pick up fresh sprigs and leaves as they manoeuvre around Nicli’s immaculat erestaurant design.
Besides serving the most delicious pizza ever, Nicli’s is the kind place you’d take someone on a date. Someone you really like.
Tips? Get the affogato–a scoop of vanilla bean gelato plopped in a shot of espresso makes a wicked dessert. And check out the back of your menu for a surprise.

Honorary Mention –
Megabite Pizza  Don’t act like you’re too good for Megabite ‘cause you’re really not.
Megabite is that gentle hand rousing your shoulder after a long night of partying – it’s that comfort of knowing you’re not going home alone tonight.
It’s got self-serve Tabasco and ranch as well, A.K.A. pizza’s own Land of the Free.
We’re a little sweet on Megabite because we recently ordered a pizza and they delivered with some optimal customer service. In the comments section for the online order form, we wrote, “Can you please draw us a pic of a cat kissing a frog?”
They made it happen. Megabite delivers in more ways than one.

Juice it up!

With the Sun shining ever-so-brightly on Rainvouver lately, we badly need to conserve water and…..so we turn to juice!

(On a serious note, we do need to conserve water and that is why the Stage 3 watering restrictions are in effect from July 20th onwards)

Coming back to juices, of course we still use water to make juice, but that is not the reason why we would give up on them. Fresh juices are packed with nutrients, are great food supplements and are perfect source of energy. Today we are only talking about cold-pressed juices and not the juice cleanses.

It can be very time consuming for busy-bees to make fresh juice at home and that is why we are giving you a list of top juicers around the block.

Krokodile Pear – Krokodile? Crocodile? What’s in a name? Let’s focus on the amazing variety of juices that these guys offer. Be it in their mason jars or in their bottles, these colorful juices not only look nice and bright but are also healthy and yummy. Cold-pressed juices, blended juices and nut milks are awaiting for you so what are you waiting for? Our recommendation? Blackcomb. Not your regular juice but even better. Try it for yourself.

The Juice Truck – Pop by their Cafe in Kitsilano or stop by the truck and enjoy their wide array of goodies. Don’t be fooled when they call themselves as the ‘Juice Truck’ because their cafe serves food as well. Sushi, salad, and spring rolls, select wisely and enjoy well! Juice and food, what else could we ask for? The Turmeric is the juice you should try followed by their Wellness Shot. Healthy shot, you see 😉

Leafy Box – If it is leafy, it has to be about the greens. Spicy Greens, Sweet Greens and Essential Greens. Pick the greens that suit your taste palate. Their juice cleanse is what they are known for so we will talk about that later. We suggest that you try out all their cold-pressed juices to get a hint of the cleanse packages before hand!

Nectar Juicery – If you are not aware, let’s update you that these folks are now open at 102 West Hastings St. Brightly colored juices fill the warm and stylish interiors of their store. Pick the juice that suits your personality. Be the ‘Leader’, ‘Motivate’, ‘Innovate’ or ‘Chill out’. If you wish to ‘Protect’, you will have to wait as this is temporarily. For the uninitiated, these are the names of their juices.
