Smooth-tastic Summer

Summer is on! Yaay! Have you been hitting the gym of late? (Say, y-y-yess) We have, actually. Summer is the season to get your beast mode on for the gym and what better way to power up your day than to indulge in some healthy smoothies?!

Calling smoothies energy fuel wouldn’t be wrong, eh? What’s fun about these is that you can play around with different fruits, vegetables, nuts, and even spices. See, you don’t always have to be a chef to prepare delicacies. But just make sure not to cook up a storm 😉

To get you started here are some easy smoothie recipes that will hopefully give you the taste of adventure and fuel to get you going throughout your day.

Fruity Smoothie

Ingredients
4 cups (1 L) ripe strawberries
1 cup (250 ml) plain low-fat yogurt
1/2 cup (125 ml) fresh orange juice
1 tbsp (15 ml) sugar, or to taste

Directions
Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend everything together for about 15 seconds or until desired consistency is reached. Serve chilled.

Green Smoothie

Ingredients
1 cup (250 ml) orange juice
1/2 cup (125 ml) plain low-fat yogurt
1 cup (250 ml) baby spinach leaves
1 cup (250 ml) raw broccoli florets
2 Tbsp (30 ml) ground flaxseed
2 Tbsp (30 ml) fresh mint
1 cup (250 ml) fresh or frozen strawberries

Directions
Blend together all the ingredients in a food processor or the blender in the order listed for about a minute or until the desired consistency is reached. Serve chilled.

Remember you can always add protein or some nuts, or add whatever that’ll make you enjoy these drinks even more. Just make sure not to add too many ingredients. Keep it simple and smooth.

And, coming to this blog, as we were talking earlier, there are a lot of popular “diets”, and more so… how to’s, and the recipes to these diets are easily available through the Internet (clap! clap! Good Job, Internet!). There are also nutrition plans available through books and online. Again, just a quick reminder that each person’s diet does not have to be necessarily the same, and a lot has to be taken into consideration such as allergies, body type, etc. before you begin any kind of diets and/ or workout regimes.

Here, we only suggest you some recipes which you can try but make sure to have your balanced meals always!

So, some popular diets include Vegetarian, Vegan, and Paleo diets. Now, as some of you may not be aware of, there is actually a difference between being Vegetarian and Vegan. Though we won’t get into the details, some vegetarians consume dairy products and eggs while vegans tend to entirely exclude animal products from their diet. On the other hand, Paleo diet revolves around a “basic” diet where food originally comes from hunting, and it eliminates grain and legume consumption. A lot of people are now moving towards healthy lifestyles by combining these healthy diets with their workout or training routines.

Breakfast: Toast with refried beans and avocado

The healthy lifestyle (*cough* New Year Resolution *cough*) we’ve been trying to fulfill all year long will come at ease as we can finally go out, enjoy the nature ,and bring our workout routines outside our homes. There’s nothing wrong with at-home exercises, but there’s also something more fulfilling when you get out there and see the beautiful day ahead of you and meet new people. Though the past few days have been gloomy, we are finally getting some sun today and even more… Summer is around the corner. Feeling great inside is more than just looking good outside. It’s all about diet. Now, diet does not necessarily mean starvation. It is a lifestyle, you are what you eat. A healthy lifestyle revolves around exercise, lots of water, good food: fruits and vegetables, and less stress. Of course, everyone is different, and one person’s diet does not necessarily work for everyone. It is very important to do some research first, or speak with a professional to learn about your ideal diet.
