Numero Uno – Number E

What does your ideal lunch look like? Now, don’t list soup, salad and other such healthy items.
Be truthful.
How about the good ‘ol sandwich? Maybe.
Sandwich with simple ingredients and complex flavours? Sure.
Warm, freshly made sandwich? Definitely!

IMG_4389 (2)

Definition of the perfect sandwich changes from person to person, day to day and even mood to mood. What make the perfect sandwich are not ingredients but feelings! Feelings with which the sandwich is made and the feelings with which the sandwich is relished.

On a sunny afternoon, one of our sandwich expeditions ended at Number E. More like #e. While chatting and eating, we learned so much about our new partner that we had to share with you.
To begin with, there’s an interesting story behind their name. Glenn, founding owner of Number E, narrated how the name came from an eatery he frequented in Ottawa. He said, “the store had the menu board by letters. All items were listed with alphabets instead of numbers. The older gentleman working there would always shout out who ordered the Number E, the letter of the meal I regularly ordered”. He further added how #e has stuck with him even before the hashtag craziness came into being. When Glenn founded the eatery, he was looking for a name that could be a symbol and would become a brand. Hence, Number E or #e was born.

Number E promotes healthy, clean eating sans additives and preservatives. All their items are store made with bread baked daily in house. “We do not use any frozen items and do not reheat or microwave orders. If we cannot make it in-house, we do not do it”, says Glenn. He adds that their store motto is to eat clean food without additives, just real food.
This really made our superficial health conscious selves happy. If you are into clean, healthy eating then make #e your new hangout.

For all those of you who think clean, healthy eating is boring and bland, think again.

A bite into Number E’s Lemon-Rosemary Chicken Sandwich will change your mind and beliefs for good. This also happens to be their best selling item. It has to be! You know the meal is delicious when you want to eat it slower just so you can enjoy it longer. Perfectly grilled juicy pieces of chicken on freshly baked Tuscan bread with baby greens, pickled jalapenos (made in-house) and avocado, this sandwich from #e gets 2 thumbs up from us.

Rosemary Chicken-3 (2)

While discussing their best selling item, Glenn said, “People love our chicken. It’s fresh as it’s from a local farm. We buy all our meats from local farms. The idea is to try to keep our money in our region and to support local businesses”. As a local startup, we support and preach this idea, too.

Discussion about food is always incomplete without us quizzing the Owners/ Founders about their personal favourites. Glenn responded to this query of ours with Reuben Sandwich. What makes Reuben his favourite?
“It’s in the way we prepare it”, he says. He explained how this idea, too, came from little eatery in Ottawa that he visited often.”The older Italian gentleman at the shop would throw the smoked meat on his flat top, put it in a Hoagie bun, garnish it with some mustard and pickle and the sandwich was ready! It was great. Simple but great”, said Glenn almost picturing the sandwich. Their Reuben sandwich is definitely one of a kind with simple ingredients yet powerful flavours. This could be one of the reasons why someone once placed an order for it right from the airport!

o (2)

Making it to the list of most memorable experiences at work, this incident made Glenn happy and proud. Giving us more details about the incident, Glenn said, “I was preparing to close the restaurant on a Saturday evening when a guy called me from the airport at about 4:15pm saying he is on his way and would arrive by 5pm. He called at 4:40 again telling me where he was and ordered a Reuben and a Chicken Sandwich. The two showed up just before 5pm, sat in and enjoyed their sandwiches. Infact, he loved the Reuben so much that he ordered another one! Not only that, he came in 2 other times before he went back home to Sacramento”.

Now that you know that Number E’s Rueben sandwich has international fans, too, you have to try it if you still haven’t. Then there’s our favourite Lemon-Rosemary Chicken sandwich. Oh, you cannot miss the Meatloaf sandwich. It’s a meat lover’s heaven! Apart from sandwiches, #e’s menu boosts a delicious selection of soups and take-home meals. The choice of drinks at #e does not end at water and pop. They have different teas, smoothies and lattes on their menu. If that’s not enough, they even have various pickles and spreads available on sale in store. So much deliciousness under one roof? Yes, that’s #e for you.

With eyes set on expansion, all Glenn wants is to keep cooking and making good food that makes people happy!

We Love That With Kay! – Ziplining in Whistler

Ziplining. Sounds a lot of fun, right? Not only does it sound fun, it’s absolutely auh-mah-zing 🙂

Kay was out and about the other day ziplining in Whistler. How was it? Did she enjoy it? Let’s hear it straight from her.

What: Superfly Ziplines
Where: 211 – 4293 Mountain Square, Whistler BC,V0N 1B4

Entering Whis’ is like entering a whole new country—the landscape, the people, the feel, the everyday everything is so different. I love it!

Undoubtedly, Whistler is the home of extreme sports. Besides your usual winter activities, Whistler is a place for ziplining. As a matter of fact (and I literally found this out the other day), Whistler is home to the tallest and the longest zipline in all of Canada.

Let’s cue an “Ooh” in unison.

My girlfriend and I decided to go ziplining on a whim. And, because of a Groupon. We wanted to do at least one winter activity (other than boarding or skiing), and lo and behold, a discount was available for ziplining so we took it. We took it with our bare hands and made it into something special.

My few pieces of advice for you before we begin:

  1. Do not be late. They will leave without you. They do not care. We left Vancouver around 12:30PM (yes, we’re aware we were pushing it) and we ended up having to meet the group at the actual mountain instead of the home office in Whistler Village. We were those people.
  2. Don’t wear Uggs. They have zero traction to snow. You will fall! (because I did)
  3. It wasn’t as cold as we thought it’d be, so wearing a thick pair of tights and combat boots/runners would have been completely fine at this time of year. Again: no need for Ugg boots.
  4. If you have a GoPro, bring it. Superfly Ziplines provides helmets that are GoPro compatible and you get fantastic footage of snow-capped mountains, greenery on greenery, valleys filled with nature, yourself screaming etc.
  5. Get pumped because it is a wicked experience. There’s only four ziplines so get confident and get comfy to take full advantage of all four!

Our guides were so helpful and professional. They knew their stuff to the tee and added a little dry humour to it—a great combination for an activity that may or may not freak you out. There are a total of four ziplines that go from the tallest, the longest, the steepest, and then one that takes you back to home base/takes a lovely photo of you as a souvenir for home.

Zipline numero uno was amazing. So you’re at the forefront of the tallest zipline in Canada, and despite the spring equinox, you’re surrounded by snow and a bit of a chill. The view is freaking stunning and you’re about 650 feet up in the air. Yikes but so exciting at the same time! This one was by far the most beautiful zipline, and duh, you are flying with the birds at this point. Enjoy the view!

Zipline numero dos was long and hard (that’s what she said) Oh, I am kidding about the hard part. Ziplining is easy peasy because your guides strap you in, keep you safe, and are really good at what they do. But yes, this one was the longest zipline—cross your ankles and become as aerodynamic as possible to really enjoy zipping down to Point B.

The steepest zipline in all of Canada is also the most fun. Think rollercoaster drop. My friend and I were known as the loudest people in the group at this point because we were screaming our heads off at every step of the way, while everyone else remained cool as a cucumber. Screaming makes it more exciting FYI.

The last zipline gives you the opportunity to take a romantic picture—it’s the only zipline in Canada where you can hold hands. Very cute. My girlfriend and I held hands throughout most of it. It kind of felt like she was going to pull my arm out of its socket—but all good, we got our picture and it is cute as hell, as we intended it to be.

IMG_1116

Obvs, we had to hit up Cow’s for some ice cream. I got Birthday Cake (frosting + birthday cake batter) because I’m a huge fan of anything rainbow sprinkles/funfetti involved. On the other hand, my friend got Wowie Cowie and Mint Chocolate Chip. We also had dinner at El Furniture Warehouse because where else would you go?

IMG_1108

All in all, Whistler is definitely a new fav. We are already planning our next trip up! How about you?

Softly Sweet – Soft Peaks Ice Cream

Blame it on the Festive Season or on our love for everything sweet, we have been constantly munching on a lot of sweet somethings of late. Where munching is concerned, as always, Team Daily’s tastes are divided. While half of us prefer something soft to indulge, the other half prefers anything! Our adventure to calm our sweet tooth one day took us to Soft Peaks Ice Cream. Yes, we eat ice creams throughout the year! While enjoying a chilled cup of Soft Peaks, we realized, “We have not discussed this treasure on our blog!

So, we got in touch with Soft Peaks to bring you some delicious details about the healthy ice creams that are making everyone go gaga.

IMG_20151213_4

Founded by food lovers and brothers Dan and Ken Kim, the inspiration for Soft Peaks comes from their love of deserts.
Being true foodies, they can literally spend all day searching for new restaurants and in their words, “can eat all day”. After many years of refining, testing, and hunting for the perfect combination of ingredients, their original, homemade recipe for soft serve was created. And, we are thankful to them for it!
Compared to Dan & Ken, Team Daily is an amateur foodie. Yeah, we like to just eat!

IMG_20151213_9

If the word ‘foodie’ paints a picture of junk food loving people in your mind, you are a little wrong here.

Dan & Ken’s focus has always been to make healthy food that their customers can trust while fulfilling their nutritional requirements and pleasing their sweet tooth too.

But why ice cream? In the words of the Kim brothers, “we both love milk and it was natural to select milk as our primary ingredient for our soft serve”. Milk. Yes, milk. Didn’t we all love milk as kids? Oh, don’t lie now!

As milk is the main ingredient of the soft serve, they have carefully selected the premium quality of local Avalon organic milk along with other organic premium ingredients such as organic cream and organic milk powder. Their soft serves are fresh since they are made every day, from scratch, in the store. They start their mornings by preparing fresh batches of soft serves and the result is refreshing, milky dessert that is all-natural, high in calcium, and lower in calories and fat than other ice cream. Woah! Now you know why we are in love with Soft Peaks? It’s ice cream but just better and healthier.

IMG_20151213_7

Their soft serves are also less sweeter than most ice creams. They have done this on purpose so that the customers can enjoy customizing their own soft serves with other various tasteful toppings based on their personal styles and preferences.

Even though it takes longer to hunt for great quality ingredients and takes more time to prepare soft serves, Dan and Ken say that they feel happy when they hear their customers praise their products. It is the taste of the soft serves and the friendly nature of the team at Soft Peaks that customers who visit them once become brand loyal and keep coming back.

IMG_20151213_6

You have not been there? What? You have to head there soon and taste their Honeycomb Peak. Imagine a fresh piece of Okanagan and Fraser Valley honeycomb on top of the thick milky soft serve. Yumm! *lost in soft serve land*

If you have already tasted their Honeycomb Peak, we recommend Mudslide. Crunchy Tim Tam flakes with flowing chocolate syrup on the signature twist. Super delicious! It is the chocolaty treat that no chocolate lover can afford to miss.

If you feel like trying something different, Green Forest is their best bet.  Made with organic premium matcha powder and sweet red beans, the soft serve comes with condensed milk on top. Perfect, we say! Ken brothers know their flavors and they really know them really well.

IMG_20151213_10

When quizzed about their personal favorite, they were quick to say, “Blue Mountain!”. Blue Mountain has homemade blueberry puree on top which is made from local organic blueberries. “We love how juicy and fresh they taste”, says Ken.

The Kim brothers love each and every day at their store but cannot forget the first day of opening. “We can’t remember how nervous yet exciting we were to open our door for the very first time!”, says Dan.

Constantly working to create new flavours, Soft Peaks have lots of interesting things in store.  Talking about store, they have just got a new soft serve machine and now you can have Twisted Original and Chocolate soft serve at their store, too.

IMG_20151213_8

So many flavours, so little time. You will definitely make multiple trips to Soft Peaks and we guarantee that! 🙂

Pop goes the Summer

What? Another Summer post? Yess! There are so many interesting things to do in this beautiful weather and lively season that we can’t help ourselves.

Just as much as we like the warm weather, we find ourselves trying to beat the heat every now and then. While every other season we crave soup, tea, or coffee (oh wait, we still crave coffee!), Summers are meant for outdoor brunches, and lots of homemade coolers. Talking of coolers, next on our list is Popsicles.

There’s nothing like a juicy, fruity, colorful and cool home-made popsicle. While they are also some of the easiest summer coolers to prepare, like smoothies and shakes, they can also be customized in a lot of different ways. Since you can play around with the ingredients, they are super fun to prepare. Not sure how? Here are some of our favorites for you to get started with.

On this cool note, Happy Friday Y’all!

TGI-Falafel Day!

Thank Goodness It’s Falafel-day! Just as much as we are excited about Fridays, we are excited falafels as well. Why? Because Team Daily loves food!

These tiny dumplings of perfection are a blessing to your tastebuds. There’s nothing like devouring these delicious, supernatural dumplings that instantly satisfy hunger, look amazing and taste even better.

Whether in a wrap, in a sandwich or on their own, this Middle Eastern delicacy is more like street food but can be enjoyed whenever, how ever and where ever.

The ingredients of falafel do not largely vary and primarily include chickpeas, fava beans and spices. What really varies are the spices and that makes all the difference.

Craving for some already? We are here to help, as always.

Presenting to you, in no particular order, the top five Falafel places of Vancouver –

Jam Jar – Oh, Jam? Jar? Yes, Jam Jar. Hold on, this place is not about jams but instead authentic Lebanese food. Located on Commercial Drive, this restaurant serves falafel both in a wrap as well as in a platter. The potato munchies served with the falafel plate spell Y-U-M!

Nuba – With locations in Yaletown, Gastown and Mount Pleasant, it is impossible to not know Nuba if you are a true foodie! Their Falafel lunch platter steals the show. Olives, hummus, salad and falafel, this is the real deal, we say.

Koala Kebabs  – Falafel platter with rice? Yes, please! Their falafel wrap is a Downtown star but the platter is even better. The bigger, the better, you see 😉 Oh, you get to choose your sauces, btw. Hummus, Garlic Mayo, Spicy Mango, mmmm, choices are plenty to choose wisely.

Mediterranean Greens Salad Bar – Salad Bar? Looks can be deceptive. Another Downtown star, their falafel platter comes with pita bread. Yay! for all bread lovers. A fulfilling meal, have it slowly to enjoy every single bite.

Falafel King – Doesn’t the name say it all? Their falafel sandwich comes with your choice of soup or salad. Carrot or lentil soup? Either one because they both taste perfect with their wrap.

With so many options to choose from, how about we have falafel everyday for the next few days?! (Yeah, just one Friday in a week dedicated to them is so not enough).
So, what are you waiting for? Head off on a falafel expedition and enjoy your weekend! 🙂

Their Top Milkshakes Bring….

Did you just happen to sing the song while reading the title? 😉 That is why we had it there.

Continuing with the tradition of giving you some cool recipes for the Summer, here we are again but with Milkshakes this time around.

Vancouver looks even more prettier and happening during these few sunny months. With the Sun smiling at you, the light breeze blowing through your hair and colorful flowers blooming everywhere, a chilled serving of milkshake could be your best companion.

We think, milkshakes are just not drinks, they are like a part of our childhood! More than the calories, it is the feels that we get from them that make them even more delicious (Yup, for once we would not like to think of calories)

This summer, if you are missing out on some childhood memories and are feeling nostalgic, here are some places to bring you back. And of course, in no particular order –

Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery – Located in a far off land called Burnaby (Not really but Ah! Fairytales), this is THE place to be if you are craving summer drinks. Their menu boosts a selection of Sodas, Fountain Syrups, Malts, Floats and yes, Milkshakes.
The old-school charm of this place is the best thing about it (after the food, of course!) Oh, how can we forget their fresh ingredients? They are all local, fresh and made in-house (that maybe the reason why this place gives you such a home-like feeling) The top milkshake flavor to try is Strawberry…or…Coffee…or…Banana…wait! We can’t decide. How about you try all  of them (not all at once but throughout the summer) and decide for yourself?
Finally, if you are there, do not miss their Sundaes. They are ah-meh-zing, too.

Moderne Burger – Burger joint on the list? Yeaah! Life would be soo boring without burgers. Right? But the reason Moderne Burger is on this list is because of their fabulous milkshakes. They call their milkshakes ‘Deluxe Milk Shakes’ and we couldn’t agree more. For those of you who like it thick, you can get your drink thickened, too! All milkshakes come with whipped cream and cherry (more like cherry on the pie) Best flavor to try..hhmm…we need more servings to decide 😉
The interiors of this place, too, are bound to take you back in time so be prepared for a trip down the memory lane with your drink in your hand.

Roundel Cafe – Roundel Cafe is the all-rounder of this list. The cafe serves tortilla wraps, burgers, sandwiches, sides and our beloved milkshakes. Root-beer milkshake? Yes, please! From lavender to peppermint to chai flavors, head to this neighbourhood gem for a complete meal or just the milkshake. Our pick? The Caramel milkshake.
Fresh ingredients, friendly people, awesome milkshakes, scrumptious dishes and even more tempting prices, make Roundel Cafe your new hangout.

What’s Shaken Milkshake Bar – Shake it, shake it, shake that milkshake at Shaken! Located in downtown, this bar is a blessing to the milkshake loving soul in you. Their menu lists some Milkshakes, Veggie shakes, Protein shakes, Superfood shakes and a long list of flavors of all these shakes. Now you see, there is a reason this place is called What’s Shaken 😉
Some interesting milkshake flavors include Fuzzy Navel, Oreo Crunch Shamrock, Strawberry Peach Daiquiri, Raspberry Key Lime and Date Me? (Date? We would marry you, oh-dear-Milkshake!)
If you want to go the healthy way, add some supplements to your shakes. You read that right. They offer a range of supplements to choose from, too. Make this your to-go place for newer and interesting flavors.

Running for your milkshake already? How can we let you go without a special mention?

If you need a little kick from your milkshake, head to Cannibal Cafe on the Commercial Drive and ask for their boozy shakes 😉 (Yup, this is exactly what their menu says!)

Since we are busy preparing a milkshake schedule for us, we will see you later 🙂 Enjoy the milkshakes and let us know your favorites, too.

Simple Pleasures of Life – Vanilla Pudding

How often do we sit and ponder about how life was so much more easier years ago? (Years…ah! Let us all lie about our age now)

Growing up, certain things always excited us like outdoor games, mom’s cooking and desserts (those were the days of eating guilt-free). Talking of desserts, Vanilla Pudding wins hands-down.

On National Vanilla Pudding Day, let us talk more about this good old, heaven sent yumminess.

Blancmange, is vanilla pudding’s ancestor or (we can say) the French version. It’s main ingredients include milk or cream, gelatin, sugar, cornstarch or Irish moss, and almonds.

It  is one of those dessert dishes where foodies continue to experiment with and make different versions of.

While not entirely in Vanilla Pudding’s Family, Cathedral Window Gelatin is almost close to it.

With Summer already knocking on our doors, Vanilla Pudding smoothies and popsicles can be perfect twists to this great dessert.

It being Fridayaay (We like to spell it like that), gorge on this supreme dessert without counting those calories (Never do that on the weekends! 😉 )

Happy Sunny and Sweet Friday, folks!

C is for?!

Before we begin, how many of you were scared of monsters as kids? (Be honest, guys!)
Yes, yes, we all were. But, didn’t we all love that cute, singing Monster. You are right, the Cookie Monster!
Let us kick-start this long weekend with our Monster’s song, sing,
“C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C”

Happy Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! *drum roll*

Isn’t it amazing how there is a day dedicated to celebrate the awesomeness of these divine pieces of love? (The True Cookie lovers will understand our feelings!)

To mark this occasion, we, at Team Daily, decided to bring to you the Top Places in Vancouver for Chocolate Chip Cookies!

In no particular order, here are some of the best places that you can visit to indulge in some cookie-ness

  • Cookies of Course – Doesn’t the name say it all?
