Ah-So-Mushy, Ah-So-Roomy!

Hello Beautiful People! Enjoying the Sun? We are! (Don’t worry about the play-offs, Canucks will be fine!)

Been long since we discussed the Love of our lives. Yeah, c’mon, we meant it is been long since we have talked about food! 😉

Let us discuss something different different this time. How about mushrooms?!

Did you know that although mushrooms are classified as vegetables in the food world but it is actually under the fungi kingdom. Talking about the healthy aspects, mushrooms are low in sodium, fat, cholesterol, and calories. Also, these babies are rich in vitamins! They contain antioxidants and beneficial dietary fibers like chitin and beta-glucans that help prevent chronic disease. Mushrooms are not only healthy, they are also delicious in their own right.

Here are just some common types of mushrooms:

  1. White – these types have the mildest flavor and the most common to use in cooking.
  2. Portobello – up to 6 inches wide, quite big, and have steak-like taste
  3. Cremini – similar to white mushrooms but with deeper flavor

On a different note, mushroom allergy is pretty common so before you indulge in these goodies, make sure you are not allergic to them!

Here are some killer (metaphor, metaphor!) foods to try:

  1. Fettucini in Creamy Mushroom Sauce
  2. Stuffed Cremini Mushrooms
  3. Portobello Mushroom Burgers

Don’t we have a knack of adding even the most healthiest of foods to the most creamy, dreamy recipes?

Healthy options for those chiseled abs and cheekbones out there:

  1. Mushroom Salad (toss in all the healthy veggies, lean meat and voila! A perfect salad is ready. Just make sure not to add heavy dressings to this!)
  2. Mushroom Sandwiches (Ah! Our love for The sandwiches)
  3. Mushroom Omelette (Yes, add them to those eggs for an energizing meal!)

Looks like we have given you enough of mushy options to choose from for today’s meals. Eat well till we meet next! 🙂

Happy Fit Weekend, Vancouver!

We hope that you have read our previous Blog on Getting Fit and ready for Summer (Yeah, yeah we know why you want to get fit specifically for the summers! 😉 )

If you have not then what are you waiting for? Check that out, too!

And, coming to this blog, as we were talking earlier, there are a lot of popular “diets”, and more so… how to’s, and the recipes to these diets are easily available through the Internet (clap! clap! Good Job, Internet!). There are also nutrition plans available through books and online. Again, just a quick reminder that each person’s diet does not have to be necessarily the same, and a lot has to be taken into consideration such as allergies, body type, etc. before you begin any kind of diets and/ or workout regimes.

Here, we only suggest you some recipes which you can try but make sure to have your balanced meals always!

So, some popular diets include Vegetarian, Vegan, and Paleo diets. Now, as some of you may not be aware of, there is actually a difference between being Vegetarian and Vegan. Though we won’t get into the details, some vegetarians consume dairy products and eggs while vegans tend to entirely exclude animal products from their diet. On the other hand, Paleo diet revolves around a “basic” diet where food originally comes from hunting, and it eliminates grain and legume consumption. A lot of people are now moving towards healthy lifestyles by combining these healthy diets with their workout or training routines.
(Vintage fashion, Old music, Aged wine, Old diets, don’t we love everything from the past?!)

Here are some meals to indulge in for each of the above mentioned diets!

First things first, finally, we can have some sun!Yaaay 🙂

The healthy lifestyle (*cough* New Year Resolution *cough*) we’ve been trying to fulfill all year long will come at ease as we can finally go out, enjoy the nature ,and bring our workout routines outside our homes. There’s nothing wrong with at-home exercises, but there’s also something more fulfilling when you get out there and see the beautiful day ahead of you and meet new people. Though the past few days have been gloomy, we are finally getting some sun today and even more… Summer is around the corner. While many of us want to have that beach bod ,we have to remember that having the ideal body means getting fit. More FITspiration, and less THINspiration (YES!)

Feeling great inside is more than just looking good outside. It’s all about diet. Now, diet does not necessarily mean starvation. It is a lifestyle, you are what you eat. A healthy lifestyle revolves around exercise, lots of water, good food: fruits and vegetables, and less stress. Of course, everyone is different, and one person’s diet does not necessarily work for everyone. It is very important to do some research first, or speak with a professional to learn about your ideal diet. There are a lot of websites that offer good advice when it comes to nutrition, and professionals out there who are more than happy to assist you.

For starters, here are a few around Vancouver-

  1. Moksha Yoga
  2. Tantra Fitness

“I’m strong to the finich, ’cause I eats me Spinach, I’m Popeye the Sailor Man” – Popeye the Sailor Man Theme Song

Now, most of us have heard of this line time and time again (Don’t lie!). Some of us might even have been hooked to Spinach when we were younger because we truly believed that it made us stronger. But sometimes, a little voice inside our heads used to say, “oh, this is just a cartoon. This is not for real”. Irrespective of all this, most of us still believed in it, and some of our parents had even taken that opportunity to make us eat our vegetables back then. But the truth is, Spinach really is packed with nutrients and a lot more (Believe us!) We think, Popeye surely knows his greens!

Coming to our darling Spinach, it is packed with tons of nutrients, such as Vitamins A, B2, B6, C, E, and K, magnesium, folate, manganese, iron, calcium, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids,(Oh-Em-Gee! If that is not enough…wait for it!)and is also low in calories!

Before you run to grab that bunch, we are not done yet! Spinach is also loaded with flavonoids which serve as antioxidants that protect our body from free radicals. Furthermore, it contains anti-cancer substances, too. Moreover, it is very healthy for the heart.
(Isn’t it WOW! Like Just WOW! Spinach is jam-packed with EVERYTHING you can think of!)

Spinach is readily available everywhere, around the year, and it is very versatile.

Here are just some of the ways you can eat your Spinach:

  1. Eat fresh for salad
  2. Sautee with garlic with a squeeze of lemon
  3. Spinach Dip
  4. Spinach Taco
  5. Sandwiches (How can we forget these?)
  6. Pastas
  7. Pizzas (Add it as another topping!)
  8. Smoothies (YEAH! That will be one healthy drink!)
  9. Almost anything! (Drinks? Maybe, not 😉 )

Now, go ahead, grab that bunch of goodness AKA Spinach and start your journey to a greener and healthier life!
